Terms & conditions

Last updated: August 2026

Welcome to CragLocal. These terms apply to the CragLocal mobile app and this website. By using either, you agree to them — if you don't agree, please don't use CragLocal. Questions? Email hello@craglocal.app.

1. What CragLocal is

CragLocal gives climbing regions their own digital guidebook. Each region is a chapter — crags, sectors and routes, maps, access information, local news and a community map of nearby services — maintained by chapter operators such as tourism boards, climbing organisations and local communities. Climbers can browse chapters, log ascents, rate routes, propose grades and take part in chapter chat.

Chapter content is curated locally. We work with operators to keep it current, but CragLocal does not independently verify every route, grade, approach or access note.

2. Climbing is dangerous — read this one

Climbing carries a risk of serious injury and death. The information in CragLocal is contributed by chapter operators and other climbers, and it can be incomplete, out of date or simply wrong. Grades are subjective. Bolts, anchors and fixed gear degrade and are not inspected by us. Approaches, parking and access permissions change, sometimes without notice.

Never rely on CragLocal as your only source of information, and never let it substitute for your own judgement. Verify what you find here independently, assess the rock and the gear yourself, and climb within your ability. You use CragLocal, and you climb, entirely at your own risk.

3. Your account

  • You need an account to log ascents and take part in chapter chat. Sign up with an email address you control, or with Google.
  • Keep your login details secure — activity under your account is your responsibility.
  • You can delete your account and its personal data at any time by emailing hello@craglocal.app from the address linked to it.
  • We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms, particularly where someone's safety or a region's access is at stake.

4. How you use CragLocal

  • Contribute accurately. Don't submit route information, ratings, proposed grades or news you believe to be false or misleading — other climbers rely on it.
  • Be respectful in chapter chat and anywhere else you can post.
  • Only upload content you have the right to share, including photographs.
  • Respect access. Crags exist because of agreements with landowners and local communities; follow the access notes and restrictions published in each chapter.
  • Don't scrape, bulk-copy or redistribute chapter content, and don't use CragLocal to build a competing database.

5. Content and intellectual property

The app, the website, the CragLocal name and logo, and chapter content published by us or by chapter operators, remain our or the operators' property.

What you submit stays yours. By posting it you give CragLocal a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it within the platform — so your ascents can appear on a route, your rating can feed a community grade, and your messages can show in chapter chat. You can withdraw this by deleting the content or your account.

6. Changes to the app and to these terms

We may add, change, suspend or discontinue parts of CragLocal without notice, and we are not liable for any resulting loss or inconvenience. Some features are free during early access — offline chapter downloads and push notifications among them — and may later require a paid subscription. We will not start charging for a feature you are already using without telling you first.

These terms may change as the product develops; the date at the top of this page always reflects the latest revision.

7. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CragLocal accepts no responsibility for injury, death, damage or loss arising from climbing activity or from your use of the app or website, including any reliance on information published in a chapter. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

8. Privacy

What we collect and how we handle it is covered separately in our privacy policy.
